Born on the 14th of July in 1974 in Belleville, NJ, Dr. Maulin Desai was reared by his grandparents in India until the age of 2 years. Upon his return to the United States, he rejoined his family and grew up in St. Louis, MO where he instantly became an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. After finishing his high school education in St. Louis, he transversed the state and obtained a BA in Biology and minored in History at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). After completion of his undergraduate degrees, he entered medical school and received his medical doctorate from UMKC. It was there that he fell in love with the Kansas City Chiefs football team. With a medical degree and a dream of learning how to surf, Maulin discovered that he could practice both in Hampton Roads and so began his Family Medicine training at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) under the mentorship of Dr. Michael Moro. After completion of his family medicine training in 2003, Maulin sought to specialize his training further at Wake Forest University where he completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship in July 2004. Although still a Big 12 fan at heart from his days in Missouri, the ACC in particular, the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest now hold a special place in his heart. Dr. Desai returned to Virginia Beach Board Certified in Family Medicine and CAQ eligible in Sports Medicine, and has reformed a special union with his mentor Dr. Michael Moro, with a mission to offer the best medical care with a standard of excellence par to none in the Hampton Roads area.
